Video: Magic’s Stan Van Gundy, Dwight Howard Participate in Most Awkward Interview Ever

The Orlando Magic find themselves in a tough spot. The franchise’s biggest and brightest superstar, Dwight Howard, essentially has them by the you-know-whats. And because he has them by the you-know-whats, he has free reign to do as he pleases so long as he pledges to maybe, possibly not leave them for greener pastures.

Yesterday, we noted that there were reports surfacing about Howard supposedly wanting the team’s head coach, Stan Van Gundy, gone if he were to commit long-term. We pointed out that these rumors were likely true, and that given Howard’s recent history, we can probably expect him to deny that they're true and change his mind on this topic on countless occasions.

Which brings us to today. In perhaps the greatest few minutes of NBA-related stuff you’ll see in 2012, we had Van Gundy acknowledge to reporters that Howard wants him fired, and then an unknowing Howard come in two seconds later and jokingly deny what his coach just confirmed. It’s just as cringeworthy as it sounds.

Check it out (there is mild cursing):

As painful as it is to watch the Magic squirm – what can they do? Once-in-a-generation seven-footers don’t grow on trees.
