Sea Life Aquarium confirm that Paul the Octopus, who became famous for his World Cup predictions, has died at the age of 2.
Aquarium spokeswoman Ariane Vieregge in Oberhausen said Tuesday that Paul seemed fine when checked on late Monday night, but he was found dead in his tank Tuesday morning.
“Management and staff of the Oberhausen Sea Life Aquarium were devastated when Paul was found dead this morning,” the aquarium said in a statement.
Paul predicted the outcome of all seven of Germany’s games, and Spain’s victory over the Netherlands, in the World Cup final.
Paul the Octopus apparently died of natural causes.
