A California mother has taken to Facebook, calling a high school teacher who left his wife to move in with her daughter a "pervert" and "child molester."
The Daily Mail reports that Jordan Powers, 18, is now living with her former teacher, 41-year-old James Hooker. Hooker left his wife and resigned from his job at Enochs High School in Modesta last month after the relationship went public.
Hooker insists that nothing happened between him and the girl before she turned 18; police are investigating that claim just to be sure.
But Jordan's mother is not waiting for the results of that investigation. Tammie Powers said even if there was no physical contact, Hooker was still pursuing her daughter when she was underage.
"She looked up to him. He was in the position of an educator, you don’t abuse your student. Period," Powers told the Sacramento Bee. "She’s still in high school. That’s not okay."
Powers has started a Facebook campaign to make sure everybody knows about the man she calls a "sicko" and "pervert," writing:
This is a picture of JAMES HOOKER from Enochs High School..a perverted man in his forties, who has taken advantage of a little girl.
Now, James if you're reading this while you have my daughter, you better believe everyone will know you're a sick child molester.
Don't think for one second you will win. I'm smarter, stronger, and way more determined. I WILL NEVER give up.

But Jordan and Hooker don't think they are doing anything wrong.
"In making our choice, we've hurt a lot of people," Hooker told the Bee. "We keep asking ourselves, 'Do we make everyone else happy or do we follow our hearts?'"
"He's my best friend," Jordan said in an interview with the local ABC station. "I mean, he's more than just a lover."
"I think the stigma of the teacher-student relationship just makes it messy, makes it really hard for people to get through to the point that we really do like each other," Hooker told the station. "We really do want to have a future together."
After reading the latest news on Yahoo!..My deepiest apologies to Tammie Powers regarding my previous comment. Foolish to believe it was true love, he actually is interested with teen girls. Whatever punishment he recieves, he deserves. The man is cold hearted,has no business visiting a minor without the presence of an adult specially a married man. It is also foolish to come out of the bathroom naked when there's a guest in the house, it's very inviting even to a good man. That other teen girl knew what she was doing and getting herself into. Innocence died along time ago.

She just turned 18 .it takes more than a few months to decide your leaving your wife and job for a student. nope this was in the works for a few years at least. Do I ever see an attractive under aged girl.yes . is it sick to say so.no.is it sick to do more than say "She is a pretty young lady" .Yes.If at that point bells and whistles don't go off in your head your sick. It is like saying " I would love to kill him" or actually killing some one nd it should be more than a law that stops you .
We are living in the era of revealing the true reality of human attraction where gays and lesbians having relationships is common and norm to society, so what is so taboo of two individuals who are in their ADULT age having a relationship? We should embraise our true feelings of attraction and stop being hypocrates we all have skeletons in our closet itching to come outside. Her mother must be at the age of jealousy and looks like a woman who has the HOTS for teenage boys. Is it pervertive for a young woman to be attractive to an older man? If so then she should also go jail.

The taboo, of course, is that the man abandoned his wife and children and violated his vows before God to enjoy this pleasure. The young woman's characteristics are irrelevant.
You make an excellent point. There was a time, even less than a century ago where men in their 40's and 50's had wives that were young enough to be their daughter.
My ow Great Great Grandfather, Just a simple farmer, outlived every one of 4 wives, each one younger than the one before. He died at age 89 and wife #5 was the one that outlived him. Her age at his death was 32.
For some people, age is a number and not a restriction, not counting, of course the age of majority (age 18), which for the vast majority of us is the minimum age for such adult relationships. Once a young man or woman hits 18, they are adults and need to be treated accordingly.

It hurts but it's true. My neighbor's daughter ran off to live with an old construction worker in his RV right after being accepted in a top university. Her parents had even paid the first semester. Unfortunately it's usually the parents' fault for not teaching their kids better about what they can expect from life and how their actions will affect their future. It always happens to over-protective parents too. They simply can't handle the thought of letting their kids make decisions and fail. That's the only way to learn..
As for these old guys, I don't really care what the law states. We were all 18 and we all know that we did not think in the same way back then as we do now. As far as I'm concerned, the teacher was bored by his wife at home and decided to have some fun. Which isn't what I would expect from an educated person who supposedly understands social norms. Luckily, most people like him will simply go to a dating site and get their fix without destroying other people's future. When a teacher does that it's really disturbing!
Schools and teachers via the school, have the power of 'In Loco Parentis". Essentially, the school and it's teachers, are able to make immediate decisions in the absence of parents for the good of the students: this essentially places the school and teachers in a parental role.
Juveniles do not have the education, life experience and emotional development to make any sort of reasoned informed judgements, such as entering into binding contracts. For a teacher to knowingly allow a romantic relationship to develop between the teacher and a student is an abuse of the power granted to the teacher and an near complete abrogation of the duty and responsibility of the teacher to guide the student in his or her education and emotional development.
When this teacher stepped over the line, the girl was 14. She was a child - NOT a woman grown. For him to wait until she was 18 was essentially self protection against statutory rape, and carnal knowledge of a minor.

I know you go on to say that this is wrong, but just how long is this "relationship" going to last given that the girl does not have anywhere near the education and the experienced point of view of an adult his age?
When he dumps her the same way he dumped his former wife, I pray that she does not break.
In deference to all other considerations, since the mother's words are libelous and if the police find no actual and unlawful wrong-doing, he has every right to sue her for libel.
And if it is true that he did nothing with the girl until she was 18, then he did nothing wrong and her mom is just being excessive.

He's an adulterer and a seducer who abandoned his wife and children. Isn't all that bad enough? Compared with all that, the fact that she is young is a minor thing (no pun intended).
