Lyman Good Looking to Make a Statement at Bellator 65

It’s been just over a year since the last time Tiger Schulmann stand-out Lyman Good was seen in the Bellator Fighting Championship cage. Looking to get back onto the winning track, Good will step into the cage at tonight’s Bellator 65 as he takes on Lavon Maynard in a Season 7 Welterweight qualifying match.

Good last competed at Bellator 39, dropping a controversial split decision lose to Rick Hawn in the semi-finals of the Season 4 Welterweight tournament. Good was originally schedule to compete against Dan Hornbuckle at Bellator 44 before a hamstring injury forced him from the bout, and a potential spot in the Season 5 Welterweight tournament.

Good signed with Bellator to compete in its inaugural Welterweight tournament to crown its first ever champion. Good tore through the competition, earning a spot in the finals against Omar De La Cruz, after victories over Jorge Ortiz and Hector Urbina. Good would make short work of Cruz, defeating him via TKO just 1:47 into the first round to become to Bellator’s first ever Welterweight Champion.

Good wouldn’t hold the title for long, dropping the title to current champion Ben Askren, over year and a half after originally winning it, via unanimous decision.

Good returned in the Season 4 welterweight tournament, defeating prospect Chris Lozano before being eliminated in the tournament by Rick Hawn. Should Good defeat Maynard this friday, he’ll earn a shot to compete in the 7th Season’s tournament, and try to earn another shot at getting his championship title back.
