The Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets are discussing a three-way trade that would deliver Chris Paul to the already-star studded Lakers roster.
According to Sports Illustrated, the discussed deal would send Paul to Los Angeles, Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets and some combination of Kevin Martin, draft picks and/or Luis Scola to the Hornets. It’s a move that makes plenty of sense for all involved, and it would coincide with L.A.’s desire to keep Andrew Bynum out of any transactions not involving Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.
New Orleans has made it clear on multiple occasions that they are not interested in Gasol, but are now entertaining the prospect of using him as bait for yet another move. The Rockets, who have desperately been seeking out a big man, more or less fit the mold.
In a crazy twist of fate, it appears as though L.A.’s major competition as it relates to acquiring Paul is the Boston Celtics. The Celtics, of course, have made their interest in Paul known since day one, but haven’t been able to pull together the pieces to make an alluring enough offer for the young point guard.
