Jessica Vega Faked Terminal Cancer to Con Fiance into Funding Lavish Wedding

A New York bride told her husband-to-be that she was dying from leukemia to trick him into paying for an expensive wedding reception and honeymoon.

Jessica Vega, 25, was taken into custody and will face felony charges over the scam. She pleaded not guilty to five counts of grand larceny and one count of fraud, according to the Daily Mail. Her bail was set at $10,000.

Vega’s cancer ruse prompted a lavish wedding reception funded by husband Michael O’Connel, the father of the Vega’s year-old daughter.

After the wedding the couple enjoyed a two-week Caribbean honeymoon in Aruba using donated plane tickets and a comped villa.

60 friends and family members attended the reception and donated everything from Vega’s wedding dress to the remaining honeymoon expenses, all to give Vega one last hurrah before what they thought would be her untimely death.

Regrets? Jessica Vega defrauded family and friends and now faces up to 24 years in jail    New Yorker Jessica Vega told family and friends she had terminal cancer when she was 23 to scam them out of money to pay for a lavish wedding

Im really curious what her end-game was going to be. Miraculous recovery? Certainly not suicide.. Perhaps divorce-and-slipping-into-obscurity? Doesn't seem her style.

The problem with attention whores is they don't exactly think it through..

I don't get it. If it was all paid for, what is the crime? She is a scumbag but who got shorted cash? All the money was donated, no checks bounced. Couldn't she keep the BS together to claim she had a miraculous recovery from her cancer?

This guy is really screwed..he apparently didn't know her well and she isn't even attractive.

I hope that the guy gets a divorce and custody of his kid, because mom is certainly no decent role model for a child, male or female.

Maybe if her moral compass had pointed North, she wouldn't be in this mess.

My wife and I had a very nice, medieval themed, handfasting/wedding that did not cost us a fortune, had our friends and family involved with the whole thing and it was more special for everyone than what all the money in the world could pay for; and it was exactly what we both wanted (as opposed to what only one of us might have wanted), having both had the meaningless, ostentatious, status symbol weddings in our previous marriages.
And our honeymoon was spent in San Fran and camping in Yosemite Nat. Park. We couldn't have had a better time if we had been offered all the money in the world.

A wedding and honeymoon should be about the occasion, the relationship and the couple not the expense paid for it or the ego of just the bride. Marriages should be "made in heaven", not made at the bank.

Those who surrender essential liberties for temporary security deserve neither and lose both. - Benjamin Franklin

What a foolish act. I hope she enjoys her post-honeymoon experience in prison. Disgusting. Where do all these dumb dumbs come from?

What a selfish bitch..

Everything I do, I do it for you.

Wow! I wonder if her prison wages will cover her restitution? How did she ever think she would get away with this? Her daughter will be better off with out her.
