White House Communications Director Anita Dunn Praises Mao

President Obama's White House Director of Communications, Anita Dunn, is trying to say her graduation speech praising the late Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong was all "tongue in cheek." Really? Judge for yourself:

She says in the clip that the communist leader, the worst mass murderer in human history, is who she "turn[s] to most." In the history of America , I can't think of a single, more radical statement than this one.

The Black Book of Communism
, which was edited by Stephane Courtois and a number of fellow French leftists, is the best resource for the crimes, terror, and repression of communism. It is widely respected and viewed as authoritative because no one can impugn the motives--or the careful research--that supports this great work of truth. Here's just one short passage: "Excluding the deficit in births.. the loss of life linked to the famine in the years 1959-1961 was somewhere between 20 million and 43 million people. The lower end of the range is the official figure used by the Chinese government since 1988."

Even the communist regime in Beijing acknowledges that 20 million of their fellow Chinese died under the dictatorship of Mao Zedong. Twenty million starved to death in just two years. Have we ever had an administration staffed with people so indifferent to human suffering, so ignorant of history, so simultaneously callow and callous? Where does Obama find these people? Unfortunately, prestigious universities are turning out thousands of them.

I think you are just ignorant and arrogant guy who knows nothing about Chinese history or culture. Go to China and ask a kid of 7 year old or a man or a woman of 70 year old about Chairman Mao, and analyze your answers, then make your comment about Mao.
It is an undeniable fact that there is no Chairman Mao, there will be no China as we see today just as there is no George Washington there will be no United States as we know today in spite of the fact that he was a slave owner. Remember the rule, you cannot get out of your time. Being a slave owner does not diminish the greatness of George Washington. Killing a couple of people in a political struggle does not make mao a murderer. How many people did we kill in civil war , or in Iraq. Wake up this is political war. Be respectful. This should be the first lesson you take before you go out of the country.

Interestingly, a few conservative Christians have cropped her remarks to say something different than she actually said. Videos show her saying Mother Theresa and Mao are "the two people that I turn to most." What she actually said was that they are "the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make choices."

I find it of note that some of my Christian brethren are diligent about 9 of the 10 Commandments, but feel that bearing false witness is okay as long as they believe it to be in the service of the Lord.

The YouTube Clip is from Fox opinion news, who knows what they have pasted together. Beck is and has been wrong with facts a lot of the time. I don't want to spend a lot of time researching this it's not worth it but let me point out. Many of our founding fathers and government leaders who are held in reverence by many people did a nice job of stealing this country from the Indians. They came close to eliminating a complete race of people. Mao made many statements that are useful and accurate as did our founding fathers but I agree that does not make them good people. Lastly to clarify one final fact, my relatives came to the New World in the mid 1700's and I completely understand the wrongs that were done by them. To sum up China is not perfect but is becoming a great county, Anita Dunn is not perfect but I have never heard her suggest a military overthrow of our government, I have watched Glenn Beck advocate a radical military overthrow of our government. Who should we charge with treason?

Our current government was founded on military overthrow. I believe it was beneficial to the people. Every independence day in every country is a celebration of military overthrow. When the government builds too much power as governments always eventually do, the only way to give power back to the people is revolution. So you're saying that now that the government has more power than ever the suggestion of a revolution is bad???

The government was hardly founded on a military overthrow. The military component of the Revolution did not come until after the colonial governments voted to break with England. Even throughout the Revolution it remained a civilly led rebellion, with each colony raising solders to serve in the Continental Army.

The celebrations that take place on the 4th commemorate the military victory over the British Army, but without the Second Continental Congress there would have been no army to fight the British.

You're right, I substituted violent with military . I don't know history well enough to debate this topic so I'm just going to say I took the original statement to mean violent so whether my comment still applies or not is opinion.

Not to get off the subject but since this article is from the family research council.

Just Exactly Who is The Family Research Council?

I just made a long call to the Family Research Council in Washington DC, I was interested in possibly supporting them, I agree on many of the positions they claim to represent. I am setting here very disappointed, to use mild comparisons they appear to be modern day Pharisees and Sadducees. For you non Christians they may be people who have hidden motives and are not who they claim to be. It is impossible to determine who or where there funding comes from. For all we know they could be funded by interests in China who wish to have much more control over the USA. The Fact is we just don’t know who the money comes from or if they have hidden motives. Do any of you know exactly who there money comes from? Please don’t use the Evangelical Council as a resource to find more on this subject, you will get only general meaningless data from them. How about it Family Research Council, give us a list of your top twenty contributors and there amounts.

Why don't you tell me? Did I say Mao was right in whatever stupid laws he made that resulted in millions of deaths ? Did I? Oh.. you thought I did? You.. you really.. thought.. HAHAHA hilarious.

(If you can be petty and demeaning, so can I.)

Btw, I don't give a crap about the family research council. I saw the clip somewhere else, I follow OV, and I commented for the sake of intelligent debate.

I'm not saying that you said anything. What you wrote left me wondering so I asking a question. I don't think anything about you this is the internet and at times there is little fact here. I am definitely not your accuser, your may be a great person.

Dunn's pairing of an "evil" individual, Mao, with the "good" of Mother Theresa already lets us know that something ironic is up. Dunn calls attention to the irony by telling us these two figures are not usually put together.

She, perhaps too subtlety for some, refers to them both as her favorite political philosophers, again giving us ironic context clues. One might fault her for insensitivity (as irony often is) or for failing to recognize that her audience was broader than (and maybe not as clever as) a group of college students, teachers, etc.

And, intent is always hard to fix, especially at a (mediated) distance.

Irrespective, no one is completely "good" or "evil," and there are lessons to be learned everywhere. That Mao or Hitler or Goebbels used their immense abilities to perpetrate atrocity is one of the great political lessons to be learned. Ability alone can be a very dangerous thing, indeed.
