Start Em’
QB- Kyle Orton DEN @ ARI
"If Big John says play me, you better play me. Think about it."
Last week Kyle Orton put up a forgettable performance against the Kansas City Chiefs. He could not get anything going in the passing game, finishing with 7 completions in 28 attempts. Up until this point he had been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in football. Orton should bounce back this week facing an Arizona defense that ranks as the leagues worst in points against. This season Arizona has only managed to hold two teams under 20 points twice, both being the St. Louis Rams. Veteran quarterbacks have thrived against this defense managing to get big yardage and a couple touchdowns. You have to expect Kyle Orton to continue this trend.
Other QB to Start: No quarterback has been hotter as of late then Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has managed to spread the wealth wonderfully connecting with almost every wide receiver on the roster. He should have plenty of time to find his receivers as Detroit’s pass defense is missing it’s main pass rush threat in Kyle Vanden Bosch. Matt Ryan faces the league’s worst team in Carolina. There should be no doubt that Ryan will have a big game as the Falcons continue to play for home field advantage. Joe Flacco faces the leagu’se worst pass defense in the Houston Texans. Flacco and Anquan Boldin are almost guaranteed to connect for one touchdown.
RB- Christopher Ivory NO Home against STL
Every year right before the playoffs there is one running back who burst onto the scene. This year it is Christopher Ivory. Ivory was a inconsistent runner throughout the season, getting 20 rushes one game and then only 2 in the next. In the last couple of games he has finally established himself and has been annointed by Sean Payton as the number one running back. In his last two games the Saints have made it an emphasis to give him the ball, especially in the red zone. With defenses forced to put a heavy emphasis on stopping Drew Brees, Ivory should have plenty of lanes and chances to get into the end zone.
Other RB to Start: After Chris Johnson’s no show last week, you maybe inclined to go in another direction. Two reasons why you should reconsider, first the Colts are absolutely dreadful in stopping the run and second. the Colts always struggle defending the Titans’ rush attack. Many of the top running backs face great matchups this week. Ray Rice should carve up the Houston defense both through the air and on the ground. You would have to think 100 total yards are all but guaranteed. Knowshon Moreno’s flexibility in being used in the passing game has really helped to boost his numbers, but last week he did all the work on the ground going for over 160 yards. Moreno has a chance to produce a similar game on the ground this week and should also supplement with some big yardage in the air.
WR- Greg Jennings GB @ DET
Jennings has been on quite a roll lately getting over 100 yards receiving in 3 straight games, averaging over 20 yards a catch, and grabbing 5 total touchdowns. He should once again have a big week. Detroit has continually had trouble in stopping the deep bomb this season. And in the past couple of weeks no defense has been able to stop the Rodgers-Jennings connection. I find it hard to believe that Detroit will be the one to stop this trend.
Other WR to Start: As noted earlier Anquan Boldin is almost guaranteed to find the back of the end zone this week. His matchups from here on out should allow him to shine in the fantasy playoffs. The last time Mike Wallace faced the Bengals, he went for over 100 yards receiving and grabbed one touchdown. A similar performance has to be expected this week. With Kyle Orton not being able to complete a pass last week, Brandon Lloyd’s numbers dropped off. He should have another big week and look to add his to league leading receiving total.
Sit Em’
QB-Ryan Fitzpatrick BUF Home against CLE
Fitzpatrick’s play this season has been one of the main reasons why Buffalo has turned it around and stayed in many games. But in the past couple of games he has been less then stellar. Teams have been applying loads of pressure on him, which has forced the former Ivy leaguer to either force throws, run, or in many cases, fumble. Fitzpatrick should get no break this week with a rejuvenated Browns defense. In the past four weeks they have done a great job of forcing a lot of interceptions and limiting yards through the air. All signs point to a rough week for Fitzpatrick.
Other QB to Sit: Brett Favre or Tarvarsis Jackson face a terrible matchup this week. This week the Vikings face the best defensive line in football and that can’t be good for whoever gets to take the snaps. Sam Bradford should have a rough week. The Saints defense loves to put pressure on quarterbacks, with the rookie under center they may look to dial it up even more. Expect it to be a harsh week for Bradford. Dr. Jekyll, aka Mark Sanchez, is back once again. After being a consistent starter, he has dropped off in the last couple of weeks. Starting Sanchez is too much of a risk, especially come playoff time.
RB- Ahmad Bradshaw/Brandon Jacobs NYG @ MIN
Bradshaw and Jacobs have both managed to strive as of late with both getting a fair share of yards and touchdowns. Most of this has been due to a continued run of facing some of the league’s worst rush defenses. This week they face a Minnesota defense that looks to be once again a top flight defense. With both runners sharing carries, getting both the yardage or a touchdown is in doubt.
Other RB to Sit: Ronnie Brown/ Ricky Williams continue to be fringe fantasy players. And with the team facing one of the league’s best rush defenses, they should once again be thrown to the wayside. Jahvid Best has shown some signs of being a playmaking back once again, but until he starts to get more carries he should continue to stay on your bench
WR- Hines Ward PIT Home against CIN
Hines Ward always seems to struggle against Cincinnati. He has not gone over 100 yards receiving against them in the last 3 years. In that span he has only 2 touchdown and only 213 receiving yards in 5 games. On average that leads to only 42.6 yards a game and a touchdown in every other game. In a previous matchup this season Ward only had 10 yards, but did grab a touchdown. Seeing as how much he struggles against the Who Deys, I would go another route.
Other WR to Sit: Brandon Marshall has become a fantasy afterthought this season in Miami. After putting up big numbers these last two years, he has had trouble finding yardage and touchdowns. You also add in the fact that he is not entirely healthy and you should not even hesitate to put Marshall on your bench. Santana Moss and the Redskins offense has been sputtering as of late. In his last two games he has only managed 40 and 24 yards. He faces a Tampa Bay pass defense that is one of the league’s best in shutting down the passing game. Expect Moss to not find many openings. Steve Smith is having a similar season to Brandon Marshall. Hampered by terrible quarterback play, he has been unable to produce. Smith has not grabbed a touchdown since week 2 and has yet to go over 100 yards receiving this season. At least for this season it looks like Steve Smith will not be fantasy relevant.
