CNBC food guru, Playboy girl attractiveness aficionado, Twitter fanatic and part-time sports reporter Darren Rovell created somewhat of a stir this weekend. (Yes, seriously.) After attending Playboy’s infamous Super Bowl party, Rovell tweeted the following on Saturday:
“Quality of Playboy Playmates last night was not what it used to be. Here's 6 of the 16 girls with @SHAQ”
Predictably, folks didn’t taken too keenly to those comments. After Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch took him to task for judging the Playboy girls’ attractiveness when he looks pretty much like all of us who cover sports look, Rovell shot back with this retort:
“@richarddeitsch people scream at me for not taking pictures of playmates. Then when i show them, I'm not allowed to evaluate them?”
And then this:
“Playboy not having gorgeous Playmates at its Super Bowl party does effect a brand that is already faltering #reality”
And then this:
"@richarddeitsch people spend thousands on these parties, rich. it's a business. There was a lot of disappointment last night. I cover that."
And then this:
“In 1975, Playboy printed 7 million copies a month. Today, it's down to 1.5 million.”
And then this:
“@richarddeitsch yes, many were disappointed with the looks of the bunnies.”
When news of what CNBC’s iron chef said got back to Playmate Jamie Edmondson, she issued her response on the matter:
“What really sparked the rude comment that @darrenrovell made (because I was there) is that when he asked to take a photo w/ me on the red carpet, the closest person to us was on the phone and advised they were unavailable because they were in the middle of handling an issue at VIP check in and to see if someone else could take it..he then said to me in a snotty fit "Oh not even for my 175,000 Twitter followers" and stormed away”
So that’s what happened, from every possible angle. However, the most telling summary of what really happened on Friday night didn’t come from anyone’s Twitter essay. No, the most telling summary of what happened on Friday undoubtedly comes from this picture (via The Big Lead from Texas Gal):
That should tell you everything you need to know.
