During the last day of Supreme Court hearings about the Affordable Care Act, the justices covered whether or not the entire law could stand if the individual mandate was struck down and the law’s expansion of Medicaid.
However, Justice Antonin Scalia seemed surprised that government attorneys expected the justices to actually read the text of the health care reform law, before ruling on it.
Scalia said: "You really want us to go through these 2,700 pages? And do you really expect the Court to do that? Or do you expect us to give this function to our law clerks? Is this not totally unrealistic? That we are going to go through this enormous bill item by item and decide each one?"
While the Affordable Care Act is a very long bill, it could expand health insurance to 50 million Americans who are currently uninsured. Some court observers are saying this is the most important case to ruled on by the Supreme Court in decades.
Herman Cain wouldn't sign any bill over three pages. Those bills would be very vague, but we could put them on the back of a cereal box :)
