Philadelphia 76ers guard Lou Williams just created a blueprint for anyone out there who wants to defend themselves from a robbery: be a famous basketball player.
While sitting in his car in the neighborhood of Manayunk on Christmas Eve, Williams was approached by a gun-wielding robber. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Williams somehow managed to diffuse the situation by talking down the stick-up guy and reminding him that he (Williams) does a lot for the community.
"A guy tried to rob me but decided not to because of whatever I do in the community," Williams told the Daily News. "He's a Lou Williams fan, so he didn't rob me."
Once the would-be robber apparently came to the realization that Williams was some sort of local community hero, he lowered the gun and chatted up the Sixers reserve. Ultimately, Williams ended up taking him to McDonalds and buying him a meal.
"There's crime everywhere," Williams said. "I was debating whether to pull off to help the guy. The gun was already out. He did all the talking, and we came up with a solution before I could really say much. I treated him to McDonald's."
So there you have it.
If the police really wanted to find this robber it shouldn’t be too hard to do so. He’s the world’s only Lou Williams fan.
