Report: Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather on Verge of Becoming Official

A Manny Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. showdown has been talked about so much over the last two years that whenever news breaks you’re almost afraid to touch it. Maybe if we don’t move and don’t speak, we won’t scare it away this time.

Or not.

Following his highly-controversial victory over Juan Manuel Marquez on Nov. 12, Pacquiao and his stable have been in a state of flux. Between the in-fighting, Bob Arum’s misguided insistence that a fourth match between Pacquiao and Marquez is what the fans want and the Filipino champion’s overall silence – nothing appears certain in the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world’s, well, world these days.

That may all be on the verge of changing.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Pacquiao seems to be indicating that he and his camp in the process of setting up a much-desired superfight with Mayweather. If all goes to as planned, this showdown is due to take place in May of 2012 – just the way Mayweather wanted it to.

"We are ready,” Pacquiao said. “If it pushes through, once he signs the contract then I’ll sign the contract. Only the little things are being worked out and negotiations are almost done.”

Of course, there are a number of ways Pacquiao’s statements can be taken. By “little things” does he really mean “little things” or does he mean “little things” to him but “big things” to Mayweather? Because that seemingly tiny distinction is a big part of the reason why we haven’t had this fight as of yet.

Still, the Filipino champion probably deserves the benefit of the doubt. After all these years, he knows better than to play with the fans’ emotions.

Just to be safe, though – don’t believe the hype until you see both Pacquiao and Mayweather sign on the dotted lines.

Check back throughout the day, Opposing Views will be monitoring this situation closely.

Will Manny Pacquiao Side with Bob Arum or Alex Ariza and Freddie Roach?

I'm disgusted to keep seeing Mayweather to dictate the condition of this fight. If I'm Pacquiao I'll say fuck you Mayweather, here are my conditions, you want to take on the pound the pound king then sign the damn contract. Who the fuck is he to dictate the date of the fight and who to fight? His whole career Mayweather has been ducking the best fighters out there, he knows it and all the boxing fans know it. His loss-less record means shit! Pacquiao is too nice of a boxer. Of the years I followed the sport I've never seen such a mellow manner and compassionate fighter. A fighter to be respected not like some of the loudmouths including Mayweather and Ali. I hope to see Pacquiao knocks out this loudmouth once and for all. Marquez is another hopeless punk. He should be greateful to Pacquiao to allow him to make $5 million. Heck it will an honor to fight Pacquiao for $5 million. So he can shut his trap about getting robbed. 9 judges in total robbed him of a win, get real! He doesn't have what it takes to win. If I'm Pacquiao, fuck Marquez too, no respect, no more rematch, take the loss and live with it Marquez!
