Radio Host Dan Sileo Calls Vincent Jackson, Cortland Finnegan, Jonathan Vilma “Monkeys”

Dan Sileo of KDAE in Tampa made an inappropriate remark on Monday in reference to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers potentially signing Vincent Jackson, Cortland Finnegan and Jonathan Vilma.

The seemingly incidental slip of the tongue occurred while Sileo and his producer, Darek Sharp, discussed what moves they would like to see their team make in free agency.

Here is a transcript of the troublesome part, via The Ledger:

Sileo: “I have given them the complete benefit of the doubt with the new coaching staff and Butch (Davis)  and all those guys. I just can’t wait to see.”

Co-host: “I can’t either.”

Sileo: “It’s free agency tomorrow.”

Co-host: “I saw Cortland Finnegan apparently trying to get Vincent Jackson to come wherever they go and the Bucs are like a big candidate. Man, if they get those two guys and then your boy Jonathan Vilma. I can’t wait man. It’s awesome.”

Sileo: “I can’t wait either.”

Co-host: “You heard it here first, Finnegan, Vincent Jackson and Vilma.”

Sileo: “Wow! Wow! They’re going to spend all that money.” (laughter)

Co-host: “Then Dan will be like: ‘well, they’re not really all that good.’”

Sileo: No, no! If they get those three monkeys I’m good. I’m ready man. I’m ready. I want those guys. Those are great players.”

As per Deadspin, the station has already apologized for their guy’s poor choice of words:

WDAE would like to apologize for Dan Sileo's ill-chosen on-air remarks earlier this week. He absolutely meant no disrespect to the players and he is sincerely embarrassed and upset that his off-the-cuff remarks might be taken as hateful, disrespectful, or in any way racist. Dan and the station regret any offense to the players; to the Bucs organization; and to the people of the Tampa Bay community.

It is unknown at this time whether or not Sileo will be punished for this mishap.

(Kudos to Deadspin for the find)
