A porn actor who went by the name of "Sledge Hammer" has died after a struggle with police officers in Los Angeles. And now the coroner is trying to figure out exactly how he died.
On April 8 police and paramedics responded to a report of an attempted suicide at the home of the 39-year-old actor, whose real name was Marland Anderson. They found Anderson with a knife wound. His girlfriend said he tried to hurt himself and was able to take the knife away from him before he could inflict even more damage.
Anderson was handcuffed to a gurney and taken into an ambulance. But he became agitated and was able to break the gurney free from a floor lock, as well as get the handcuff free from the gurney.
An officer used a Taser on him, but that did not work. Several officers were eventually able to restrain him.
He was then rushed to the hospital. On Friday he was taken off life support and died.
It's not clear what went wrong, but friends say he was not the kind of man to fight with anyone.
“He was the most kind, sweet, adorable human being you could ever ask for,” Erica Sullivan told KNBC-TV. “It was not within him to harm another being."
