New Houston Rockets-Toronto Raptors Trade Rumor Would be Awful

ESPN has just broken what seems to be the preferred package for landing Bosh by way of sign and trade.  The results may be shocking:

In their quest to land either of the top two free-agent power forwards – Chris Bosh or Amar’e Stoudemire – the Houston Rockets have been offering Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier and free agent Luis Scola in potential sign-and-trade packages, league sources said.

Scola obviously would have to agree to a sign-and-trade because he’s a free agent. If the Rockets can’t get either Bosh or Stoudemire, they will push forward in negotiations to re-sign Scola.

Trading both of our perimeter defenders in one foul swing alongside Scola is not what I would consider ideal.   In one move, our team defense would be destroyed.  I’m not sure how I feel about Daryl so aggressively trying to land an all-star but all stars win championships.  Only time will tell if this means that the Rockets would ideally start 2nd year player Chase Budinger next to Bosh/Amare or if this just the first of many cogs in Morey’s grand plan.

It could be possible that this trade is meant to be interpreted as Battier or Ariza, but given the circumstances I think it’s both.  Bosh, target number one for the Houston Rockets, plays alongside Hedo Turkoglu who not only has requested a trade but also has a bloated contract and plays small forward.  Toronto is looking to dump Hedo in a sign and trade and our situation makes too much sense.  Could Hedo’s playmaking skills benefit the Rockets next season?  Good Lord, I hope not.  Just say no to Hedo.

It seems like you backtracked from Awful to acceptably questionable as your column progressed. Perimeter defense is big I agree, but it's hard to destroy a team of almost all role players and a 6'6" center when Yao gets hurt, (and let's face it his track record isn't the best when it comes to health ) by picking up arguably the second best big man in the league. The 4 starters that are definites are good enough to carry the team a long way, and maybe pick up Richard Jefferson, or worst case scenario yeah start Budinger. We had Chuck starting last year and I love him but, we need more size in my opinion. Fingers crossed the deal gets done. The Rockets usually make the right decisions, unless it's draft night and we make trades :/
