Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Update: Manny, Floyd Talk on the Phone

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have reportedly spoken on the phone regarding a possible May superfight.

Yes, we’re actually at the point where these two conversing on the phone is breaking news.

Over the last few days Pacquiao and Mayweather have played their own little public relations version of table tennis, with each offering an excuse as to why a bout between them couldn’t be arranged. Pacquiao said that he wanted a match in late May and needed 50 percent of the purse to make it worthwhile. Mayweather said that Pacquiao was refusing to accept his challenge for early May.

The boxing world collectively shook its head.

Well, it appears as though we’ve finally gotten some real, legitimate movement. According to Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN, the pair spoke on the phone recently and attempted to iron out their differences the way they should have all along – privately. As per the report:

The fighting congressman said he is willing to face Mayweather "anytime," as long as he will be given an equal split of the fight revenues.

"Sabi ko aprub na sa akin ang 50-50, walang problema anytime. Nasa 'yo na 'yun. Maghihintay kami kung OK na sa iyo (I said just give me a 50-50 split in revenue and there would be no problem, anytime. It's up to you. We’ll wait for your answer)," he said.

If Mayweather agrees, the fight could take place in May.

This is huge, obviously. For what it’s worth, though, we've been unable to get independent verification of this conversation ever taking place. If it did – then both fighters deserve a standing ovation just for trying. If not, then it wouldn’t exactly be a shocker that these men didn’t do what they very clearly should have done.

Stay tuned – we’ll keep you updated as news breaks.
