Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Update: Hammer Officially Drops

We’ve known for nearly a week now that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t square off in May, but on Tuesday that the powers that be decided to make it official.

Figuring that this ridiculous, pointless charade had finally run its course, Top Rank boss Bob Arum took to the airwaves today to let it be known that Pacquiao vs. Mayweather (the May version) was officially off the table. Interestingly enough, he didn’t even bother alluding to the financial differences of opinion that supposedly caused negotiations to spiral out of control. In fact, if you buy Arum’s version of what has gone down, the reason that this match isn’t taking place in May is because of scheduling concerns. Not purse split concerns, scheduling concerns.

"They don't want to fight in late May," Arum said of the Mayweather camp in an interview with the L.A. Times. "It's dead for May, so we should … let Mayweather fight someone else May 5 and we'll fight someone else June 9, and then let's get a signed contract for [Mayweather-Pacquiao] in November. That's a win-win for everybody."

As we noted on Opposing Views over the weekend, the fact that this fight was dead for May was really no secret. More than anything else we were just mostly waiting for someone to make it official.

By the way, did you notice the way Arum tried to dangle some hope in front of boxing fans about a superfight possibly taking place in November?

Yeah, that'll happen.

The reality is -- as we pointed out recently -- a November bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather isn’t really in the cards either. The far more likely scenario is Pacquiao taking on the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez and Lamont Peterson’s probable showdown.

As far as what Pacquiao is doing next – all signs point to him throwing Timothy Bradley a beating in about four months. We reported yesterday that a deal between Pacquiao and Bradley for June 9 was apparently official already, but nothing has been confirmed to the media yet.

Either way, regardless of whether Pacquiao vs. Bradley ultimately comes to fruition or not, rest easy knowing that the match you wanted to see is officially dead and buried.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Update: No Fight in 2012

I know Floyd will never, ever fight Pacquiao! If he really wanted to, he would've done it 2 years ago.

You are probably right fact-checker, but you don't know why he won't fight him.

FLOYDIOTS—THESE ARE THE FACTS:

Please feel free to argue this fact, but fact is fact. Please say which point is not a fact and add other points not mentioned and not carry on with your emotions!

1. Floyd accused Pacquiao of steroids use, demand random test. If “Pacquiao takes random tests as I demanded, there will be a fight!” After Mosley fight interview.
Pacquiao finally agreed to Floyd’s demand to make the fight happen.
2. Floyd fought Ortiz and said “Pacquiao, You’re next!
3. Pacquiao offered to take less pay and smaller share of the purse to make the fight happen.
4. Floyd tweeted and demanded Pacquiao to fight him. The venue and the date was already chosen by him for personal reasons.
5. Floyd chose MGM, Arum said not viable as they can earn more revenue by 30-40 million if they build a bigger venue.
6. Floyd chose May 5th as the only date due to his jail obligations. Arum said June 9th to build a bigger venue, negotiate with sponsors and more promotions to maximize earnings. ARUM IS A PROMOTER!
7. Floyd said NO, May 5th and MGM as demanded. Floyd then rings Pacquiao personally to negotiate the fight. Floyd offer 40million guaranteed but no share in all other earnings like PPV,promotional earnings etc. which could reach 200 million potentially. Pacquiao asked for 50/50 split IF MAY 5th as there will be less total revenue since, smaller stadium, insufficient time for promotions and sponsors etc. which will decrease his “Lesser Purse” That’s the reason Pacquiao changed his mind. Pacquiao offered the 50/50 purse to Floyd and agreed on May 5th in MGM against Arum’s wishes of June 9th and a bigger venue. Floyd thought Pacquiao is stupid in terms of negotiations and 40 million is enough.
8. Last negotiations on record is that Floyd said he will never agree on 50/50 purse and despite his tweetering and ringing Pacquiao and Pacquiao agreeing to so many of his demands, FLOYD WILL NOT FIGHT PACQUIAO! THAT’S A FACT!

Floydiots will keep on insiting Floyd is undefeated, he fought this, fought that, Pacquiao hand picks opponents, on steroids, etc., etc. THE FACT IS FLOYD WILL NEVER FIGHT PACQUIAO!
