Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to reduced battery domestic violence and harassment charges.
The judge presiding over the case, Melissa Saragosa, also announced that the undefeated champion would have to complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.
All this, of course, falls in line perfectly with what we reported on Opposing Views earlier today.
Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum and Mayweather were all expecting something along these lines would occur, and this doesn’t actually hurt the odds of a potential Pacquiao vs. Mayweather showdown in any way. Rather, if you believe what Arum's selling (which you probably shouldn't), it may even help everyone’s bottom lines because it pushes the prospective fight back further than its previously discussed May 2012 date.
This plea deal allows Mayweather to avoid trial on felony allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and threatened their two children back in September of 2010.
Mayweather will report to jail on Jan. 6.
