Manny Pacquiao Sends Floyd Mayweather Jr. a Message

The out-of-ring gamesmanship between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be a thing of beauty if it hadn’t already gotten so stale by this point.

If you were to trace back this fight-that-hasn’t-happened back to its roots, you could see little games being played on both sides from the very beginning – with both Pacquiao and Mayweather trying to mess with the other’s minds for sport.

First Mayweather, out of the blue, decided he wanted more stringent drug testing for the, what was then deemed, “inevitable” super fight versus Pacquiao.

Pacquiao, in turn, responded with some mind games of his own. He rejected Mayweather’s incessant drug testing requests all the way up until the point at which Floyd was at his wit’s end, and then Pacman suddenly agreed. That should’ve been the end of it but, of course, it wasn’t. Mayweather, angry that he wasn’t getting the fight on his terms, randomly raised the drug testing standards to an even higher standard, a move that Pacquiao would later scoff at.

And so on and so forth, down the line, you could look back at the history of this dream fight that never was and see both fighters refusing to give in to one another – attempting to capture any mental advantage that they could possibly get over the other.

Now, in a recent interview with KO Boxing, Pacquiao opted to send another message to his arch rival:

“I'm not gonna stay long in boxing. A couple of fights and I will stop boxing. I will focus to serve people,” he said.

Translation: Fight me now or, forever hold your peace.

Pacquiao seems more or less secure with his legacy. Over the past few years he has eclipsed Mayweather as the best-for-pound fighter in essentially everyone’s eyes, and barring some unspeakable catastrophe against Juan Manuel Marquez in November, it’ll stay that way.

Mayweather can fight Victor Ortiz, and he can fight whoever else he wants, but unless he finds a way to get into the ring with the Filipino champ, his legacy will forever be tainted. Right or wrong, he’s viewed as a ducker at this point, and the only thing that can change that perception is a bout with Pacquiao.

A master of understanding public perception, Pacquiao realizes all of this. Mind you, this isn’t the first time in recent weeks that he’s discussed his boxing mortality and legacy.

He realizes that he can retire at any point to pursuit what many deem his higher calling public service, and still go down in history as a better fighter than Mayweather without ever having to fight him. And that’s the message he’s trying to send to Mayweather with all of this ratcheted up retirement talk in the last few weeks.

Pacquiao’s days in the sport are numbered, and he isn’t trying to keep it a secret. He’s spelling it out loud and clear to Mayweather – your unblemished record is worthless if one of those victories doesn’t come against me.

Will Mayweather finally get it?

Only time will tell.

wow ths person is so biased to tell u da truth boxers these days wud do anyding to win if manny is man enough fuck it go for the blood test jus lyk ortiz,if he aint got nuding to hide.

its not biased.you just dont know about boxing.u didnt even know that pcquaio had already agreed random drug test.u know if pacquaio will retire without fighting mayweather.the honor and legacy will still favor to pacquaio, but mayweather will remain lesser honor and legacy.you just become deaf of the reality about your fighter mayweather.observe and read the news carefully.your fighter become coward to those boxer he know that can beat him

boxing sucks!!!! if you took a look at this weekends boxing matches Gamboa VS God knows who or Klitschko VS God knows who (very short guy) both fights sucked, a little cut and they stopped the fight thats bullshit, I prefer watching MMA UFC strikeforce or even the little cheap local setup fights then to pay $65.00 for a fighter that is not in the same league as the other fighter its bullshit. Now the Manny VS Floyd should be an iteresting fight that is if gayweather doesnt run around the square for twelve rounds, either way these two fighters are the only fighters that are keeping boxing alive and yet they dodge each other one beating on women the other one running for president, if you aske me the president thing is more amenable. Get these 2 fighters in the damn square if this was the UFC this would never happen Daina White would make these guys fight or they would get kick the "F" out!!!

I take it back, boxing is a fix and a disgrace. I have just watched Jamie Cox (a fighter of Frank Warrens) win a disgusting points decision for the light middleweight commonwealth championship against Ghanaian champion Sai. The fight was held in England at Frank Warrens annual charity event and scored by 3 English judge with and English referee!!
It was so blatant that the crowd booed the decision and the ghanaians initially refused to hand over the belt. This is the kind of thing that makes me never want to pay for a fight again. It's a just a shame that nobody cares

Of all the articles that I have read about these two boxers, this is the most accurate and direct to the point article among them all. Credit to the author for a job well done. I truly admire your writing talent because you were fair to each one of them and you have shown more concern with your readers than these two boxing legends.

A hero's war medals are useless if all the world knows that the hero never really fought in the war. Not fighting at all by being a "sniper", is the real zero loss record of Floyd Mayweather, and her legacy.

Pacquiao is riding high at the moment but Floyd has done what he does for 15 years now. People criticize him for ducking the best fighters so he comes back after 16 months off against Victor Ortiz who, admittedly, is not the best fighter but he is a young strong champion, a southpaw, coming off a win. Everything in short that Mayweather is supposed to be afraid of. Now all I read is that Ortiz is another cherrypick!!! But it's ok for Pacquiao to fight a shot Marquez at the wrong weight?? Pacquiao's last 4,5,6??? Fights have been handpicked by his promoters to cash in before he calls it a day.
His last fight against Sugar Shane should give everyone an idea how the anticipated superfight would go. Lots of early, ineffective aggression that is soaked up. If pacquiao had been in the ring with Floyd that night he would have been dropped.
People don't like Mayweathers out of the ring persona but that should not detract from his undoubted skill and don't forget the 0 in the losses column. He won't want to give that up easily

Mayweather knows this. He is not dumb and late next year this fight will happen. The prophet has spoken

The main reason why Mayweather can't fight Pacquiao, is because of this: http://youtu.be/mpfTth-GQy4
