Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Spar Over Knicks Jeremy Lin

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be reluctant to fight each other inside a boxing ring, but neither one opposes putting the other in his place on Twitter.

On Monday, Mayweather set the social media world on fire when he announced his somewhat negative opinion of New York Knicks superstar, Jeremy Lin. To hear Mayweather describe it, Lin is only being hyped by the media right now because he’s Asian, not because he’s had a historically great 10-day stretch. This was his tweet:

“Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise.”

We broke down why this tweet was partially right and partially wrong already, so there is no need to rehash that. Instead, let’s fast forward to what Manny Pacquiao did on Tuesday. Undoubtedly -- though he’d probably never admit it -- in a direct response to his undefeated arch rival, the Filipino champion offered this tweet:

“God Bless Jeremy Lin.”

Short, sweet and most importantly, timely. It’s obviously no coincidence that Pacquiao has come to Lin’s defense a day after Mayweather’s unique commentary on the matter. The interesting question, though, is why Pacquiao is coming to Lin’s defense. Is it because he’s genuinely a fan of the Knicks’ point guard and really wants to see him do well? Or is it because it’s just another excellent opportunity to show up Mayweather while everyone is looking?

People will have their own theories on that, but this much is for certain: the feud between Mayweather and Pacquiao isn’t dead just yet. Too bad they can’t get it off the internet and into the ring.

Could you see the difference between the two? The first one is bashing Lin while the other is asking God to bless Lin. Now that makes sense of their differing personalities.
