Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Not Egotistical Enough for a Dream Match?

A lot of descriptive words have been used to describe undefeated superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. over the years. Egotistical, most certainly, is one of them. Similiarly, while no one flatly comes out and calls Manny Pacquiao egotistical, it goes without saying that you have to have a certain inflated sense of self worth and confidence to achieve the feats that the Filipino champion has achieved over the years.

So, with that in mind – it was very surprising that the face behind the single greatest cooking tool ever made for people that can’t cook would suggest that the pair won’t get around to fighting because they lack the necessary egotism.

During a recent interview with the good folks at Boxing Scene, George Foreman came out and explictely said that he doesn’t believe a dream match between Mayweather and Pacquiao will ever come to be because both fighters lack the necessary egotism.

“I doubt it,” Foreman told Boxing Scene when pressed on the prospect of a potential showdown. “Both fighters are making all the money they want without fighting one another. They’re not egotistical enough to want to fight each other. It may never happen.”

Now, the prospect of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao not getting put together is nothing new. It’s not outlandish to suggest that a bout between two fighters that has gotten derailed every single time it’s come close to happening over the last two years won’t happen. There is nothing even mildly controversial about that stand.

What is hilarious, though, is the suggestion that the two fighters involved aren’t egotistical enough to make this fight happen. Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of the most egotistical fighters in the sport today, and that’s precisely why they’re sitting atop the current pound-for-pound rankings. The innate egotism that each one has is what has driven them to this point, despite the fact that they have long-since cemented themselves as permanent fixtures in boxing lore.

There are a lot of reasons why Mayweather vs. Pacquiao may not get put together -- Bob Arum’s insufferable shadiness comes to mind -- but we’re going to disagree with Foreman here – the pair not being egotistical enough is most definitely not one of them.

Manny the puts his pride to the side and says he will take Mayweather's Olympic Style blood testing at any day as long as its not on the day of the fight then the next thing u know Mayweather counters with blood tests will have to be taken on the day of the fight even though a blood test is taken in their locker room right after the fight and u still believe that Mayweather would have still took the fight once Manny agreed to the testing even on the day of the fight. Mayweather and Bob Arum doesn't want this fight but Manny bent over backwards with trying to make this fight by accepting Mayweather's tests.
