Manny Pacquiao Continues to be Heavy Favorite vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

Going into this Saturday’s Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez showdown, the difference between “biggest payout” and “smart bet” has never been clearer.

From the very beginning, Pacquiao was viewed as a heavy favorite over Marquez in almost every regard. The Las Vegas oddsmakers, various members of Pacquiao’s camp and boxing greats from all over almost unanimously agreed that the Filipino champion would indisputably manhandle Marquez come November 12. And because of that general certainty from, well, every which direction – the betting figures reflected it.

As of Thursday evening, here is what bodog.com has for the fight: Pacquiao (-900), Marquez (+550).

So, what does that mean for potential bettors? Well, it means that you can bet Marquez and roll in the money in the unlikely event that you win. Or, you can bet Pacquiao with minimal risk, and get practically no return on the wager.

Basically, it’s a win-win. In absolutely no way

The far more intriguing bet out there to be made this weekend is on the over/under as it applies to rounds. Here is what bodog.com had for that: Over (+110)/Under (-150) 10.5 rounds.

Now, clearly most people believe that this fight will be a short and decisive Pacquiao win – but that’s not a guarantee. There is a far greater shot that this goes 11 rounds than there is of Marquez miraculously upsetting his counterpart on Saturday, so if anyone is feeling reckless, the over/under is undoubtedly the way to go.

Of course, more likely than not, Pacquiao will win – and he’ll destroy Marquez in six to eight rounds.

But don’t let that deter you from making a bet. With an end result as predictable as the one we have for this weekend’s showdown, fans should be squeezing every last bit of excitement that they can out of the proceedings.
