Lazaro Ramos, from Guatemala, quit his job at a doughnut shop an hour after learning that he was one of the 29 Californians to match five of the six winning numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on Friday.
Ramos walked into USA Donuts and Croissant in El Monte, California, on Saturday morning, and asked KCBS reporter Mike Dinow what the winning numbers were.
Dinow said: “I looked at his ticket and I thought it was a joke. I thought somebody was playing a joke.”
Ramos, who works at another doughnut shop in Whittier, California, won $227,955. He plans to return to Guatemala and open up a restaurant.
