Kings DeMarcus Cousins Does Interview on ESPN First Take

DeMarcus Cousins, fifth overall pick of the Sacramento Kings, has had a pretty good start to his professional career in the NBA. He was named the league’s Rookie of the Month after his solid performance at the Las Vegas Summer League. Even though some worried about his potential attitude and dedication issues, Cousins showed why he was so highly touted coming out of college. He could be dominant in the post, hit open jump shots, and pass well out of double teams. Overall, he showed the potential of possibly becoming one of the best big men in the league in a couple years.

Cousins recently did an interview by phone with Jonathan Coachman on ESPN’s First Take where they discussed his performance at the Summer League and his future with the Kings. Cousins knows that he put forward a strong performance, but acknowledged that there is still work to be done.

“I believe I played well, but there’s a lot of things I needed to correct,” Cousins said. “Just a lot of flawed things that I needed to correct, but overall I think I played pretty good.”

Coachman then asked what it would be like playing with Tyreke Evans after having the benefit of playing with another highly talented point guard in John Wall. DeMarcus recognizes that both are very talented players and wishes John Wall the best of luck, even though Skip Bayless can’t say the same for Wall. Cousins looks forward to his time with Evans and hopes for future success now and well into the future.

“I think we could be a good combo,” said Cousins. “Tyreke’s a great player, a willing passer, and a young player at that so I believe we could build some nice chemistry and do some damage.”
