There are a lot of schools of thought on the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. feud. You have the Pacquiao fans who are vehemently opposed to all things Mayweather. The reason that emotions run so high and there is so little compassion exhibited from the two sides is because the stars involved, Pacquiao and Mayweather, seem dedicated to making sure this feud lives in infamy. During Pacquiao’s recent media stops to promote his upcoming fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, he made it a point to bash his undefeated rival a little bit – even if he got the facts mixed up in the process. Mayweather, for his part, never tries to shut his mouth regarding his Filipino counterpart either.
During a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Mayweather decided to take the war of words a little further. When pressed on his opinion of Pacquiao’s upcoming bout versus Marquez, Mayweather had this to say:
"We shouldn't even be talking about him right now," Mayweather said. "All we're doing is blowing him up, we blowing up a fighter that don't need to be blown up.
"It's all about the red, white and blue. Pacquiao comes in this country, he makes money, and he takes it back to his country, to feed his people. Why are we even speaking on this man? He's irrelevant.”
So again, for those keeping track at home, Mayweather finds Pacquiao to be irrelevant and doesn’t wish to speak about him.
In his very next sentence, Mayweather then opted to speak on Pacquiao.
"Manny Pacquiao fought Marquez twice already, and Pacquiao knocked Marquez down a few times," Mayweather said. "I took 2 years off and fought Marquez, and it was easy work.”
And in case anyone had forgotten, Mayweather took the opportunity to remind them why the dream fight that has over the last two years turned into a nightmare hasn’t happened:
"We say, be the best, take the test," Mayweather said. "If Pacquiao really wants to fight, it would've happened already."
So there you have it, folks – Pacquiao versus Timothy Bradley in 2012 is looking more and more likely by the day. Everybody wants to see that, right?
