God Helped Broncos and Tim Tebow Beat the Bears, Apparently

Some of you may not know this, but Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is mildly religious. It’s no big deal. He’s not especially outward with it or anything. But religion does play a minor role in his life and, as such, sometimes it’s interesting to glance at the success he’s had this season and muse about whether or not a higher power is leading him to glory.

Take last Sunday’s victory over the Chicago Bears, for example. The Broncos were horrible offensively through about 90 percent of the game, finally scoring their first touchdown with less than three minutes to go. After flubbing a potential onside kick, all Chicago had to do was take three knees and run out the clock. Only instead of doing that, Bears running back Marion Barber got forced out of bounds on second down – stopping the clock.

Denver ultimately got the ball back with less than a minute left and eventually nailed a 59-yard field goal to force overtime.

In overtime, Barber once again fell victim to some other-worldly circumstances when he fumbled a ball that he appeared to be holding very, very tightly. Much as they did to end regulation, the Broncos capitalized and set up the game-winning field goal.

To say that Denver won in improbable fashion would be an understatement.

Well, as it turns out, maybe they had a little help from the big football fan in the sky.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard -- who, amazingly enough, was responsible for that Barber OT forced fumble -- passed along this little tidbit that he received from Tebow:

“Tebow came to me and said, ‘Don’t worry about a thing,’ because God has spoken to him.”

And how did Woodyard respond?

"I gave him a big hug and told him thank you," Woodyard said. "God speaks to people to reach other people."

Well, that settles it.

God hates the Chicago Bears.

I don't believe God intervenes to determine who wins athletic contests..but you gotta admit, it's getting hard to explain how the Broncos keep winning..

Is it? I thought it was related to them getting more points than the other guys. Likely due to the opposition getting cocky.

You make some good points (yes, pun intended). Your point about the opposition underestimating them is good. You'd think they would recall that everyone in the league had to be the best of the best at every level. You can't take anyone lightly at the pro game.

If freedom means anything, it is the liberty to tell others what they do not want to hear.

Maybe because there is a degree of parity in the NFL that ensures any team will have a good season sometimes. Otherwise profits would fall off. They can't have that, can they?

Let me see if I've got this straight. God is currently ignoring the prayers of millions of people who are praying for
Food,
Water,
Safety,
Peace,
A cure to disease,
along with countless other things. God will happily let children get slaughtered or simply starve to death and let innocents be tortured and killed.

But, god's into football and will intervene in individual plays to make a certain team win. If this is true, god is the most monstrous prick in the universe. Believers had better pray that this is not what god's wasting his time on.

This is typical christian arrogance. Jerks like Tebow assume their "god" will intervene in a pointless football game while ignoring the 27,000 children around the world that are dying of starvation and malnutrition.

Most of the problems of the world are, and always have been, caused by religion. For example, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, 9/11, and family planning clinic bombing in the USA. Then there were the crusades, the inquisition, witch burnings, and the dark ages. Get the idea?

Humanity will never truly be free until the black yoke of religion is lifted by the clear light of truth and rational thinking.
