Floyd Mayweather Scared, but Not of Manny Pacquiao

I’ve been reading a lot of interesting articles and posts all over the Internet lately regarding the proposed Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao fight. But what’s really stuck out is how some boxing fans say Mayweather’s scared to get into the ring with the tough Filipino. Some have even called him a coward. Well, it’s time to put an end to those notions.

Mayweather may be a lot of things; a punk, thug, jerk, idiot, criminal, whatever -- but one thing he’s not is a coward. Actually, I don’t know of any cowards who are willing to lace up a pair of boxing gloves and lay their life on the line by getting into the ring. Sure, Mayweather may be scared. He’s scared of losing his perfect record and, like most human beings, is fearful of the unknown. Most boxers fear what may happen to them in the ring, but it’s a general fear of being hurt. It’s not a specific fear of a particular opponent.

There have been a few instances where boxers have looked like they were about to faint at the sight of their opponent. Michael Spinks against Mike Tyson comes to mind, but this is far and few between. Pacquiao’s a great fighter, while Mayweather’s a great boxer. Their styles are completely different. Pacquiao prefers to engage in wild and exciting toe-to-toe brawls while Mayweather would rather take the safer route, which is not getting hit and landing just enough shots to win rounds. However, he can still land a helluva shot as we saw against Ricky Hatton.

Boxing’s always been an unreliable sport when it comes to the business side of it and it’s not really surprising that a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight has hit some snags along the way. In fact, it might not take place if Mayweather gets locked up for his unsavory actions in his personal life. And even though I appreciate his skills on a boxing level, he leaves a lot to be desired as a person and role model.

But Mayweather deserves a little credit when it comes to his boxing career. His 41-0 record with 25 knockouts couldn’t have been achieved if he wasn’t dedicated to the sport or if he was scared of opponents. The list of fighters he’s beaten is as impressive as anybody’s.

Who else has taken on and beaten Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah, Carlos Baldomir, Arturo Gatti, Jose Luis Castillo, Jesus Chavez, and Diego Corrales? All of these were great fighters in their own right and I believe world champions at one time or another.

Yes, Mayweather could possibly be ducking Pacquiao. He could even be afraid of losing to him and seeing his unbeaten record go down the drain. But he’s sure as hell not afraid of getting in a ring and trading punches with Pacquiao the boxer.

Of course, Pacquiao got tired of waiting for Mayweather to sign a contract, so decided to take on Antonio Margarito of Mexico on Nov. 13. Bodog.com has the odds of Pacquiao winning at 4/23 and Margarito at 15/4. According to Paddy Power, the odds of going over 9.5 rounds are 13/10 and under are 10/17.

One must feel defeat to be great. Without it. can't get to the next level

There Can Be Only One.

Mr. Writer, whether Floyd is scared of Pacquiao or of losing that 0, still makes him a COWARD.

If you don't think that's cowardice, then at least try to come up with another word that could describe his act of evading the multi-million and surely a legendary match against the pride of the Philippines. That's lots and lots of MONEY! Something Floyd's obsessed about.

I agree with you that he's not afraid of Pacman. He shouldn't be since he is bigger and has a terrific defense that could possibly evade most of Pacman's punches. Plus, he can't be a coward since he faced boxers like Mosley.

STILL, he is still a C-O-W-A-R-D for not taking the risk of losing to the best P4P boxer in the world.

Please review you're articles before publishing on the web next time. I heard that's what good writers do. Just a tip from a mere reader.

I think the story goes like this..
FMSr: Pacquaio's on to performance enhancing drugs!!
MPac: No I'am not!
FMSr: Pacquaio's on to performance enhancing drugs!!
FMJr: You're right dad.
FMSr: Pacquaio's on to performance enhancing drugs!!
FMJr: Let's put him for a "Random Blood Test"
FMSr: Pacquaio's on to performance enhancing drugs!!
FMJr: "Random Blood Test" agreement before I sign a Fight!
MPac: No I won't.Olympic style testing is enough.
FMJr: "Random Blood Test" agreement before I sign a Fight!
MPac: No "Random Blood Test" 2 weeks before the fight.is that enough?
FMJr: "Random Blood Test" agreement before I sign a Fight!
MPac: OK!! is that what you want.Let's now sign a "Fight Contract"!!
FMJr: Sorry I'm not into boxing right now, I'm on vacation....
FMSr: Pacquaio's on to performance enhancing drugs!!

This article is grossly flawed. From the point of view of behavioural analysis, general fear is is rooted from our instinct of self-preservation. The general fear of being hurt stems from preserving one's life. However, when a boxer steps into the ring, he is well aware that he's gonna get hurt but that fear is compensated by the expectation that he can also hurt his/her opponent and eventually win, thus preservation, and of course by other incentive like money. Generally there is fear of being hurt, beaten or even get killed by the opponent and this fear is tied up to the opponent not just a shadow fear. When the boxer avoids the fight, he just avoids getting hurt or beaten by the opponent and there's nothing that can compensate with that because it is the FEAR that dominates his rationality which can eventually cause irrational responses from the person. This fear can also create insecurity and othe unstable responses and will drive the person to avoid or deny exposure to the source of fear and pain. In reality, he cannot be afraid of getting hurt but not afraid of the person who can cause the pain. On the contrary, all people who are involved in whatever form of fighting/combat are willing to take the risk of getting hurt in one form or another with the thought that he/she can defend him/herself or hurt the opponent/enemy or with the expectation of receiving some incentives. Ergo, we can only conclude that it was real fear from FMJ on not fighting Manny. Is $30 million not enough incentive to compensate the fear of getting hurt. And if FMJ considers himself a better fighter than Manny with the prospect of hurting him back and beating him if they face, his general fear should have been discarded by these factors. Don't worry about Manny's advantage if he has (it's not proven he's using PED's), if he believes he can conquer Manny, he could also conquer his fear. But as what it shows, his fear has taken over him. He will continue fear guys like Manny, Cotto, Margarito, etc because he couldn't see the prospect of being beaten, it's not fear to lose but fear of getting beaten. Simply FMJ is AFRAID!!!

cowardness.. what does this word mean? if ducking a great fighter isnt being afraid, or lost his balls to stand and fight, dont you call this a coward? you have made so much excuse mr writer. you go around the bush to hide the real meaning of the word yet falls back into its right meaning! ducking, afraid and fear.. what else do you want to call cowardice is? dont tell us excuses of losing a fight, thats just exactly what a coward is! a yellow! afraid! a pussy! chicken out! what word are you looking for just to get floyd jr out of the basket while his balls are absolutely fallen to the ground and rolled down the sinkhole and you dont want to call him coward! man, you gotta see what it is, stop blinding your eyes just to save floyds ass! let go girl, stop being a floyd nuthugger.

Just like bill clinton said, "I smoked marijuana, but I did'nt inhale".
Yeah right!!

"i ain't scared of no midget!!" Yeah right!!

"i never had sex with that woman" because - blowjobs don't count as sex.. Yeah right!!

Winning is foremost in the hearts and minds of any fighter in the sport of boxing.Mayweather Jr.'s is 41-0 fight record all the more it is ingrain into his confidence but also in his fear for that matter.
The main and the biggest difference between the two great fighter is the "WIN" word ,practically and psychologically.Pacquiao do train very hard up to sometimes being stop by his trainer for it is more than enough for the day already.Mayweather Jr. is also known to be a non stop fighter when it comes to fight preparations and consistent training, but no news about excess of it and told to stop already. That's the similarities for both fighters. However Pacquiao was able to realized in his hearts and mind that he is a great fighter and should win not just for himself but for his country ,Philippines .
Floyd is having the reverse of that ,he made his country proud already and he doesn't want to lost it together with the material and psychological gains with it.WIN to give honor against WIN not to lost it which among the two is more brave?more sure?
more confident?.finally more willing and ready?

with so many alibis coming from floyd not to fight manny, i think its safe to call him coward if he really is not scared..period
