Despite Being Dead for 13 Years, Joe DiMaggio Endorses Florida Sheriff Candidate

A lot of people care about what will ultimately happen in Florida’s big Broward County sheriff’s race. One of those people: New York Yankees legend, Joe DiMaggio.

In an effort to beat the rush of folks that will undoubtedly emerge in support of Louie Granteed, DiMaggio recently made his endorsement of the candidate known. He was so excited about it, in fact, that he even permitted Granteed to use his name on a fundraiser invitation.

Check it out (via the Sun-Sentinel):

Of course, folks that attend this fundraiser hoping to shake DiMaggio’s hand may end up getting more than they bargained for when they find out he’s been dead for 13 years.

You see, it wasn’t actually DiMaggio who offered his endorsement of Granteed, it was just his lawyer Morris Engleberg. Apparently, Engleberg has carte blanche to throw the legend’s name around as he sees fit – even in largely irrelevant sheriff’s races.

You can’t make this stuff up.

(Kudos to Deadspin for the find)
