Big Surprise: Broncos Tim Tebow vs. Patriots Tom Brady was a Ratings Bonanza

The biggest winner coming out of Sunday’s much-hyped showdown between Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos and Tom Brady’s New England Patriots wound up being CBS.

According to Sports Business Daily's Austin Karp (via CNBC’s Darren Rovell) New England’s 41-23 romp proved to be CBS’ highest-rated regular season NFL overnight in four years. The heavyweight bout featuring the worst defense in the NFL versus arguably the league's least impressive passing game did a 19.5.

It looked like the outing might be an exciting barnburner in the early going when the Broncos and Patriots ran up the tally quickly and efficiently. By the end of the first quarter, mind you, Denver led 17-6 and seemed poised to shock the world. But then reality reared its ugly head and a combination of awful Denver turnovers and dominant New England strategizing befuddled the home team to no end.

When it was all said and done, the Patriots won their sixth in a row and clinched an AFC playoff berth in the 18-point blowout.

The day wasn’t a complete bust for the Broncos, though. Tebow got his revenge on Brady after the game when he impregnated Gisele Bundchen just by winking at her.
