Fresno State University says it will not discipline a professor who showed a porn video in class.
The website CampusReform.org reports that last week the teacher of the human sexuality class, Peggy Gish, played the 20-minute video featuring all sorts of "human sexuality."
The website said it learned of the incident after a student complained. It also writes that "the entire class seemed to be in shock that the professor chose to play the explicit film."
However, the university defended the playing of the video, a spokesman saying in a statement:
The educational video about which you inquired is a 20 minute segment from a longer DVD. This is an element of a 3-unit, semester-long "Introduction to Human Sexuality" general education course that explores physiological, psychological, social, cultural and developmental considerations for life-long understanding related to sexuality. It is not a required course. Students who take the course are advised, in advance, that they may find some content objectionable and that they may opt out at their discretion. Since material is provided in a variety of formats, students have the opportunity to gain course content for assignments and exams without being required to view material they may find objectionable.
The educational video is called Advanced Sexual Techniques. It's description reads in part:
Advanced Sexual Techniques is the first video in our three video Better Sex Series. Volume 1 discusses how to increase your sexual knowledge, increase pleasure, and heighten intimacy. Twelve couples from different ethnic backgrounds take you on an explicit sexual journey that explores sexual positions and techniques.
That's not porn; that's a sex education video.
The title should have been the first warning that sexual material will be discussed in class. I enjoyed the Human Sexuality course I attended during college.

I hate it when they were warned about what would be in it, and they STILL get butthurt about it. If you don't like it, then don't participate.
Excellent class to offer. I wonder what the student's shocking thoughts are after watching the explicit film.
