It’s time rejoice if you’re a Juan Manuel Marquez or Victor Ortiz fan because, finally, someone is picking both men to beat Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., respectively, in their upcoming bouts. Mayweather, of course, is due to square off against Ortiz on September 17 at the MGM Grand and Pacquiao will fight Marquez at the same locale on November 12.
And if those picks weren’t edgy enough for you, the guy making them has one more: Mayweather would beat Pacquiao too.
During a recent interview with RingTV.com, famed boxing cornerman Angelo Dundee made some bold predictions in regards to Mayweather and Pacquiao’s forthcoming matches. Considering the fact that the 90-year-old boxing legend has trained the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Carmen Basilio, George Foreman and Willie Pastrano – his opinion on the sport definitely carries weight.
How much weight? Well, that’s for the individual fans to decide.
"Tough fight. But if I had a fighter to choose to fight against Mayweather, it would be one who fights like Ortiz. Result? Tough, split-decision. But Ortiz may be the winner," replied Dundee, when asked about who he liked in Mayweather vs. Ortiz.”
And what about Pacquiao vs. Marquez?
"Marquez will give Pacquiao a tough fight every day that they're alive. Another tough fight, like I said. Probably Pacquiao's toughest fight, because Marquez is a guy who knows how to fight him. Decision, split, Marquez."
With that pick, Dundee officially became the first person outside of the Marquez family to actually pick him over the Filipino superstar. Perhaps a closer look at Pacquiao during the Pacquiao vs. Marquez media tour would change his mind?
Dundee was also asked about who he had in a potential Pacquiao vs. Mayweather megafight.
"Mayweather wins. I just don't know why Mayweather's not fighting him," said Dundee. "He walks around saying that he's the best fighter in the world? Well, fight the sucker. I think that he beats Pacquiao."
Bold, very bold. Not only does Dundee go with the unpopular picks, but he goes with them confidentially. You just can’t get that anywhere else (exception: the Pacquiao-hating Teddy Atlas).
"I'm warning you: I'm the worst fight picker that you will ever meet. I'm a great analyst, but I'm the worst picker," Dundee told RingTV. "Now, I ain't crazy, I'm just Angelo Dundee, and I'm a just really bad fight picker."
Maybe not.

Angelo Dundee is a certified Pacquiao non-believer. He will always side with every opponent of Pacquiao even if that fighter is a journeyman. He doesn't care if he picked the wrong guy or the opponent has zero chance of winning, he just doesn't want to admit that Pacquiao is one heck of a fighter. I just don't know why he hates Pacquiao that much.
Well, at least he admits that he isn't a good fight picker. It's funny because guys like him and Teddy Atlas really know boxing, but when it comes to predicting the outcome of fights, they suck. Predicting is a different kind of skill, and intuition is involved big time. Analytical guys like Angelo & Teddy use more of the left side of the brain, and intuition is a right brain function.
