The defense attorney representing alleged child molester and former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky may have some skeletons in his own closet.
According a report published by The Daily, Joe Amendola (Sandusky’s attorney) reportedly impregnated Mary Iavasile at some point shortly before or after he assisted the then 16-year-old girl in filing an emancipation petition. The petition was filed on September 3, 1996 – a mere few weeks before her 17th birthday.
Amendola, born in 1948, was 49 years old at the time.
Mary’s mother, Janet, confirmed to The Daily that her daughter got pregnant somewhere around that time.
“She met him through the school district; she was interested in the law,” she told the paper.
"At the time, I didn’t know the extent of the relationship.”
Amendola and Mary Iavasile got married in February of 2003. They would later have a second child, but ultimately split up.
The Daily also reported that Mary e-mailed them at some point and disputed the details in their piece, but refused to elaborate on what specifically was incorrect.
According to the New York Post, the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16 years old.
