2012 Super Bowl Commercial: Republican Clint Eastwood’s Detroit Chrysler Ad

Clint Eastwood is one of the most iconic actors of his generation. He’s also a lifelong Republican. He’s such a lifelong Republican, in fact, that back in 1988 George H.W. Bush almost asked him to be his V.P.


Seriously.


Anyway, during this year’s Super Bowl, Eastwood starred in a very moving commercial about Detroit’s perseverance in light of all of its highly publicized economic struggles over the years. While I subscribe to no political ideology and see the macroeconomic logic in both not bailing out big companies and bailing out ones that are too big to fail, I did find it funny that a Republican was praising Detroit's turnaround when Detroit would’ve been pretty much dead had it not been for Democrats.
