Kentucky will headline the South Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will be joined in this bracket by interesting squads like Duke, Baylor, Indiana and UConn.
At the moment, the instant reactions Kentucky's path are sort of mixed.
As the No. 1 overall seed the Wildcats theoretically should have gotten the easiest bracket. And when you think about it, you could make the case that they did get the easiest No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the whole tournament in Duke and Baylor. Not so much because these teams lack talent (although they obviously don’t have Kentucky-type talent), but mostly because they haven’t shown themselves to be consistent forces at any point this year. Indiana and UConn, though, are two of the more formidable under-the-radar teams that you’ll encounter throughout March Madness, and both very easily could advance further than anyone expects them to.
Here is how the entire bracket looks:
No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 16 Mississippi Valley State/Western Kentucky
No. 8. Iowa State vs. No. 9 UConn
No. 5 Wichita State vs. No. 12 VCU
No. 4 Indiana vs. No. 13 New Mexico State
No. 6 UNLV vs. No. 11 Colorado
No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 14 South Dakota State
No. 7 Notre Dame vs. No. 10 Xavier
No. 2 Duke vs. No. 15 Lehigh
