Syracuse will headline the East Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Orange will be joined in this bracket by solid teams like Ohio State, Florida State and Wisconsin.
By virtue of just how evenly matched it is, this may wind up being the most fun bracket to watch.
First and foremost, it’s important to note that what Syracuse has done this year has been remarkable. Somehow, this team managed to drown out the noise from not one, but two scandals en route to an absolutely excellent season. Given how pressurized the Big Dance is and how well this group has responded to pressure all year long, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see them advance all the way to the Final Four.
All of that said, it also wouldn’t be especially surprising to this team stumble and fall at any point. Kansas State could trip Syracuse up. Ditto with Vanderbilt or Wisconsin. And double ditto with Ohio State and Florida State, who will likely come out of the bottom half of this region.
Here is how the East looks:
No. 1 Syracuse vs. No. 16 UNC Asheville
No. 8 Kansas State vs. No. 9 Southern Miss
No. 5 Vanderbilt vs. No. 12 Harvard
No. 4 Wisconsin vs. No. 13 Montana
No. 6 Cincinnati vs. No. 11 Texas
No. 3 Florida State vs. No. 14 St. Bonaventure
No. 7 Gonzaga vs. No. 10 West Virginia
No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 15 Loyola
