While tonight’s Kentucky Wildcats versus Kansas Jayhawks National Championship showdown could theoretically impact certain players’ values heading into the draft, chances are it probably won’t.
All of Kentucky’s young stars are already valued pretty highly, and it’s hard to envision anything -- including a weak performance -- costing them those high spots.
Anthony Davis being more or less imposing won’t change anyone’s perception of what he will bring at the next level. Similarly, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist struggling won’t make anyone suddenly disillusioned enough to believe that he won’t be a Gerald Wallace-ish difference-maker in the NBA. And along the same lines, a bad game from Kansas’ Thomas Robinson -- after all his good ones up to this point -- probably wouldn’t impact his stock too dramatically either.
The most interesting Kentucky player to keep an eye on tonight, really, is Terrence Jones. At the start of this season, Jones was heavily featured in John Calipari’s offensive attack and he largely thrived in that role. Later on, as the season progressed, the Wildcats’ offense became more balanced and Jones’ production noticeably petered off. More than any of his teammates, Jones could probably lift himself a few spaces with a strong showing on Monday night.
