1 Man Dead in Pamplona; Is it Time to Ban Running of the Bulls?

One man is dead and several more are injured in one of the most dangerous and chaotic days in the history of Spain's legendary running of the bulls. Police in Pamplona say that a 27-year-old man was attacked by a bull that separated from the pack and went after a group of runners.

This is the first time someone has died in the famous bull running event since 2003. Is it time to put an end to this popular but dangerous Pamplona tradition?

Fox News reports:

This is stems from the barbaric sociopathic behavior that also used to throw people into hungry lions for entertainment . The running of the bulls is the prelude to the barbaric and horribly cruel slaughter know as a bull "fights." First of all there is NO "fight" the bull doesn't stand a chance. It is often drugged or maimed prior to entering the ring. It is repeatedly stabbed so it looses strength from blood loss and can not raise it's head to see. Then the "brave" matador or killer runs around the bull to make it dizzy and confused and proceeds to stab it in the neck hoping to sever it's spine. Unfortunately, he sometimes misses and doesn't kill the bull but paralyzes it. When the blood bath is finished, they drag them out of the ring by their heads. NO animal deserves to be tortured for entertainment. The Spanish and others kill thousands of animals like this every year for entertainment--it is barbaric.

This is no different then fighting pit bulls or turning pit bulls lose on confined pigs or cock fights or using animals for sexual pleasure. It stems from man's arrogant mentality of animals being his property and he has no responsibility to treat them with respect and dignity and can do whatever his sick mind is capable of doing to them.

Our world stands by and allows this sort of barbaric exploitation of animals to prevail. We endorse it by accepting that in some place it's OK for some animals to be exploited and tortured for entertainment. Then we cry when we hear about kids being mauled by pit bulls in our towns. Are we stupid or what?

The bulls win?

Hey, good for them.

Anyone has, or should have the freedom to risk their lives in any way they see fit. If governments, (those who ban things), would really want to stop deaths, the first thing they should ban is war. People seeking death defying entertainment such as this is just that, people seeking entertainment. You get gored by a bull only if you attend the race and are close enough to get gored. To each his own.

.. and get your lumps is how I've always seen it.

As long as the participants are adults I don't see why it should be stopped. They chose to risk their arses.. let them.

This practise should most certainly be banned.
I have to say that I never feel pity for anyone who knowingly enters into this event and is injured or killed.
It serves no purpose and proves nothing, only the stupidity of those involved and the lack of humanity in regards to the plight of the bulls.
Stop this madness.
